Formed in December 2005, Desmond & The Tutus plays an infectiously awesome blend of Rock ‘n Roll and Indie Kwela Pop. Energetic, tongue in cheek songs and a frantic live show make Desmond & The Tutus an unforgettable act.

The Tutus have played sold-out shows all over the globe, including Japan, France, Sweden and the UK. In 2012 the band worked with Los Angeles-based producer, Eric Broucek, and their 2nd full-length album entitled ‘MNUSIC’ was released in July of 2012. The first three singles from the album all charted on the 5FM Top 40. Most notably, the 2nd single ‘Zim Zala Bim’ reached No. 1 on the 5FM Top 40. That same year, Desmond and the Tutus were selected as the opening act for large international bands like The Drums, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Two Door Cinema Club.

The band recently completed successful tours of Japan, the UK and Europe, and continues to play packed venues and headline festivals all around South Africa.

DESMOND & THE TUTUS RELEASE NEW ALBUM Sorta. Desmond & The Tutus’ new album will be released in three parts on iTunes starting the beginning of September. Entitled Enjoy Yourself, and recorded and produced by High Seas Studios. the album will be released in physical form in limited editions after all three parts have been released. The first four tracks, while distinctly Desmond & The Tutus, see the band bringing their microphones, their drumsticks, their jangly guitars, their moustaches, and their slightly broken metronome to explore a rounder, more spacious, sound that plays with song punctuations, new textures, rhythmic change overs, and surf-rock influenced backing vocals, while lyrically expanding on their signature story based naiveté toward a darker melancholy. Tearing Up (Big Guns) is a jumped up cowbell infused pingy guitar romp through valleys and troughs, while Teenagers is a Sofia Coppola-esque suburban plea to a teenage love that employs backing vocals to heart breaking effect. Pretoria Girls is an ode to, you guessed it, Pretoria girls that owes as much to David Lee Roth as it does to Jonathan Richman, swingy and melodic, a song for getting stuck in an the car queue to Park Acoustics at the first flush of Spring. Youth Group Leader, on the other hand is a paean to lost youth, past sexiness, and the shaping of young minds, that charts the downfall of a youth group leader, a pillar of the community, who ends up as a CD store clerk, that plays out over a distant barbershop quintet backing vocal and that old Desmond & The Tutus guitar sound.
